I’ve always been a low maintenance kinda girl. After I transferred to public school, I didn’t last a whole year doing my hair & makeup everyday. I’ve been even more low maintenance lifestyle. This year, I decided I would start taking better care of myself in all areas of life. This is what I’ve been doing to keep my hair healthy!
I shared my skincare routine a couple weeks ago so make sure to check it out here!
In Shower Products
I recently started using the L’Oreal Elvive Volume Thickening Shampoo. It’s okay but I don’t like it as much as their Extraordinary Clay set. We’ll see how my opinion changes by the time I finish the bottle!
Right now, I shampoo every other night. I massage a dime-sized amount into my scalp & roots. The length of my hair gets washed as I rinse the shampoo out. This might not work as well for you if you’re someone that uses a lot of products like hair spray and texturizing spray.
I’ve been loving the Love Beauty and Planet brand. Their Coconut Water & Mimosa Flower scent is AMAZING. It’s such a light, airy, & calming smell! I love that they keep the environment in mind by using recycled materials for their bottles. Like with the shampoo, I only use a dime-sized amount but I avoid getting it on my roots. I let it sit until I’m done washing the rest of my body.
Post Shower Hair Care
When I’m done in the shower, I wrap it in a microfiber hair towel. It’s better than using a full-sized towel & it’s SO much easier to manage. I have a cheetah print one from 5 Below but they’re everywhere now. Here is a similar pack of 2 from Amazon! Some of my family members use this brand of hair towels and they love them!
After about 15 minutes, I take the hair towel off. I work a tiny amount of Garnier Sleek & Shine Leave in Conditioner into my hair with my hands. Like with regular conditioner, I avoid my roots.
I don’t use a brush or comb anymore, especially when it’s wet. But with using conditioner & leave in conditioner, I don’t need to use one. I can just brush through my hair with my fingers & I’ve noticed that it’s SO much healthier now!
I use dry shampoo on days that I don’t use shampoo. The Dove brand is my favorite! I’m currently using their Detox & Purify dry shampoo. My second favorite is the HASK Monoi Coconut Dry Shampoo. The bottle is a pastel, peachy pink & the scent isn’t overpowering like other scented dry shampoos are.
The only time I use a brush is when my hair is dry & I’m working the dry shampoo into it. I’ve heard it’s too damaging to brush your hair when it’s wet because that’s when your hair is most prone to breakage.
